Provides a comprehensive and wide range of services, programs and facilities for all ages to enhance quality of life for Newington residents, under the direction of the Board of Parks and Recreation.
Organization & Staffing
As of February 2009, The Parks and Recreation Department has 19 full time staff. The Recreation & Administrative Division has 5 full-time employees, and the Parks & Grounds Division has 14 full-time employees. The Parks and Recreation Department also employs approximately 100 part-time, contracted and/or seasonal employees.
Summary of Responsibilities
The Recreation Division organizes all town-sponsored recreation activities offering over 500 programs, many special events, and processing over 11,000 registrations each year and works closely with various citizen committees, civic and youth sports organizations, and the schools.
The Parks and Grounds Division is responsible for the maintenance of all Town parks, public grounds, open space, school athletic fields, cemeteries, and the Kellogg Eddy and Kelsey Historical Houses. The Supervisor of Parks and Grounds also serves as Tree Warden.
