2030 POCD Update
2030 PLAN OF CONSERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT
As mandated by the Connecticut General Statutes, Newington's Planning and Zoning Commission recently began working on an update to the Town’s current “Plan of Conservation and Development” (POCD). The current POCD was adopted in 2010 and by law must be updated no later than July 2020.
A POCD is a statement of goals, policies, and actions for the physical, cultural, and economic development of the municipality. It establishes a common vision for our future, and contains policies and recommended actions to achieve that vision.
The updated POCD will address the physical, economic and social development of the Town. The goals and recommendations are intended to reflect a consensus of what is desirable for Newington and its residents in the future. Preparation of the updated POCD will involve participation by Town departments, various commissions and members of the public. There will be a series of meetings open to the public. This web page will display a variety of documents that go into the making of the POCD as well as drafts and updates on the project’s status.
The deadline for completion and acceptance of the POCD is July 2020. We are now in the initial phase, which involves the gathering of extensive information on land use and demographics, and projected trends. It includes interviews and surveys of key staff and members of the public. The results of the initial research was presented to the Town Plan and Zoning Commission at its meeting on September 25, 2019 by our consultant, the planning firm of Planimetrics.
