The Newington Parks and Recreation Department announces today that the West Meadow Cemetery will begin its fall clean-up in order to clear the cemetery in preparation for the winter season. The Newington Code of Ordinances, Cemeteries, §194-13 C. states “Artificial decorations shall not be permitted during the growing season between April 1 and November 1. All artificial decorations placed in non-conformance with this chapter or with rules established by the Sexton pursuant thereto shall be subject to confiscation. All summer decorations shall be moved prior to October 15 of each year, or they shall be confiscated by the Sexton.” §194-13, D. states “Articles such as glass jars, watering cans, votive lights, palms, and bric-a-brac of any description are forbidden and may be removed without notice. Potted plants shall be contained only in clay pots not exceeding 10 inches in diameter and six inches in height, and in rustic baskets not to exceed 12 inches in diameter. Only one pot or rustic basket will be allowed to be placed on any one grave. The cemetery shall not be responsible for items left on the grounds or at graves.”
Patrons of the cemetery should remove all their belongings immediately. Any left items will be removed and put in a designated area near the Parks and Grounds garage. You may reclaim your personal belongings there. Items not reclaimed within two weeks from today (October 9, 2019) will be discarded.
