Voting for Nutmeg Children’s Book Award
Children in grades 2-12 are invited to cast their ballots for the 2018 Nutmeg Book Award, Elementary, Intermediate, Teen and High School levels, from April 2 - 28. Your vote counts! Be sure to read all or some of the nominated books before you vote. Lists and books are available in the Children’s and Teen Departments.

Kate Samela, author of Give Peas a Chance; the foolproof guide to feeding your picky toddler, will do a presentation covering a number of different picky eating habits and provide parents with a unique set of tips and secrets to create stress-free mealtimes.  A Question and Answer Session will follow the presentation.  Please call to register.

Pajama Yoga
Tuesday, April 3, 7:00 p.m.

Namaste everyone!  That means peace.  Children ages 4-8 and their caregivers are invited to come to the Library in comfortable pajamas to have fun doing Yoga together.  Beth Agdish, a certified Next Generation Yoga for Kids instructor, will teach us techniques and traditional poses.  Mats will be provided to those who do not bring one.  Please call to register.

Children who will be starting kindergarten for the 2018 – 2019 school year, and a caregiver are invited to listen to stories and participate in lots of hands-on activities that will help children to develop the skills needed for a successful start in school.  In order to create a special one-on-one learning time with your soon to be kindergartener, please make other arrangements for siblings.  Please call to register beginning April 2.

In celebration of Earth Day we will be showing the movie Fern Gully – The Last Rainforest.  The magical inhabitants of a rainforest fight to save their home, which is threatened by logging and a polluting force of destruction called Hexxus.  The movie is a classic produced in 1992 with the voices of Robin Williams, Tim Curry and Cheech Marin.  It is rated G and runs for 76 minutes.

Preparing for Kindergarten: What Every Parent Needs to Know

Parents of children attending kindergarten in the fall are invited to hear a panel of experienced professionals offer advice and tips for this often stressful time. A program only for those children entering kindergarten will be held concurrently during the first session only. For more information or to register, call the Children’s Department. Due to the postponement, the children's storytime has been canceled.

Desserts Ever After: Dessert with the characters from Willy Wonka
Sunday April 22, 2:00-4:00 p.m.

The Friends of the Lucy Robbins Welles Library and Newington Children’s Theatre Company are co-sponsoring a fundraiser on Sunday, April 22 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the library. Children and adults are invited to meet and take pictures with the cast of NCTC’s Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka Jr. Guests will also enjoy fun activities, play games, and have ice cream for dessert. Tickets for adults and children are $5.00 per person and are available to purchase at the Adult Information Desk.
