[ARCHIVED] COVID-19 Property Tax Relief Extension Program

COVID 19 Tax Relief Program

Due to Covid-19, Governor Lamont has issued Executive Order No. 9R, which affects the January 1st Real Estate, Personal Property and Supplemental Motor Vehicle taxes. These taxes shall become delinquent if not paid on or before April 1, 2021 with the exception of landlords, banks, and mortgage companies.  Interest will be charged on April 2nd and accrues at a rate of 1.5% per month back to the original due date of January 1, 2021.

A Landlord (any taxpayer who rents or leases property to tenants or lessees) affected by Covid-19 may apply for the Deferment Program no later than January 28, 2021, and must provide the Tax Collector with documentation that either the parcel will suffer a significant income decline, or that commensurate forbearance has been offered to the tenants. The application form will be available online on the Town’s website, and may be dropped in the Tax Payment Drop Box located in the rear parking lot outside of the Police Department or mail forms to the Newington Revenue Collector, 200 Garfield St., Newington, CT 06111 for approval.
