The Newington Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce the completion of the resurfacing of the existing playgrounds at Churchill Park. In an effort to reduce injuries and increase overall safety, the Department has installed a rubber playground safety surface similar to what was installed at Mill Pond Park's playground. "The engineered rubber safety surface reduces maintenance and increases handicapped accessibility for those physically challenged", said Bill DeMaio, Superintendent of Newington Parks and Recreation. The project included the installation of handicapped accessible asphalt paths from the large pavilion connecting to each of the playgrounds and then over to the existing path that leads to the handicapped parking in the large lot. New drainage was installed under the rubber surface as well as around the perimeter of the playgrounds and tied into the existing catch basins. This will reduce overall erosion. In addition, a brand new handicap-accessible 2 - 5 year old playground was installed. Bring your children and grandchildren today to enjoy the excitement! If you have any questions regarding the project, please do not hesitate to contact Bill DeMaio.
