[ARCHIVED] Motor Vehicle Tax Bills Delayed

News Feed

The Town of Newington has made the decision to delay the mailing of the annual Motor Vehicle tax bills for this year due to the failure of the State of Connecticut to adopt a budget.
The reason for this delay is that present law requires municipalities to charge not more than 32 mills for Motor Vehicle tax bills. Towns similar to Newington whose adopted mill rate exceeds 32 mills, were to be reimbursed by the State of Connecticut for the difference between their actual mill rate and the 32 mill rate ceiling. Due to the uncertainty of the financial budget of the State, the Town decided to wait until the State of Connecticut resolves their financial issues before mailing out the Motor Vehicle tax bills.
We expect the bills to be mailed out as soon as the State budget gets approved. Taxpayers will have 30 days to pay their bills from the date they are mailed by the Tax Collector.
