Risk Management

The Town's Risk Manager works with the Standing Insurance Committee, the Town's Agent of Record, the Town's insurance carriers, the Employee Health and Safety Committee and the Town Council in the administration of the Town's property, casualty and liability insurance program. This program consists of:

• Contract review
• Coordination with both claimants and insurance carriers
• Review and approval of invoices for both premiums and self-insured losses
• Review of outstanding claims
• Review of property, vehicle and equipment schedule
• Selection of the Agent of Record every 3 years
• Selection of insurance carriers
• Selection of insurance coverage and deductible levels
• Working to ensure safe and healthy Town facilities, for both employees and the public

USI Connecticut (formerly Webster Insurance) is the Town's Agent of Record. The Connecticut Interlocal Risk Management Agency (CIRMA) is the primary insurance carrier for workers' compensation, auto liability, general liability and property insurance.

Tenant User Liability Insurance Policy (TULIP) Coverage: 

Individuals and Organizations that use Town facilities (Tenant Users) for Special Events are not covered under the Town’s liability insurance. The GatherGuard Program offers low-cost General Liability and Liquor Liability Insurance for users of Town facilities. This insurance protects both the Town and the Tenant User against claims by “third parties” who may be injured or have property damage during a private event.

With GatherGuard, you can secure protection for most types of events, including: weddings and receptions, meetings and seminars, birthday parties, concerts, festival and cultural events, outdoor fitness events, and fundraisers. 

Examples of what your GatherGuard Policy may cover:

• Damages to your or town/city property 
• Injuries sustained by your guests while attending event
• Liability for accidents that may occur during your event
• Liability for events where alcohol is provided or sold (Host and Liquor Liability)
